SYP business conference

Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to attend a business connection event hosted by the Southaven Young Professionals on April 17, providing students with direct engagement opportunities with regional business and community leaders. This initiative is designed to strengthen career readiness, expose students to real-world business perspectives, and equip them with practical skills that translate into workplace success.

During the event, students will hear from a featured keynote speaker and participate in a series of interactive breakout sessions led by industry professionals. Each session will focus on a critical component of workforce preparedness, including understanding the role of the Chamber of Commerce in local economic development, managing finances and stretching a first full-time paycheck, evaluating whether the traditional 9-to-5 career path aligns with personal goals, and developing a strong personal brand in today’s competitive job market.

Additional sessions will emphasize essential professional competencies such as effective communication in the business environment, building strong relationships and sales skills, and identifying the value of mentorship in career growth. Students will also gain insight into navigating diverse workplace environments, including perspectives on women thriving in traditionally male-dominated industries. The program will conclude with practical guidance on interview preparation, helping students understand how to present themselves confidently and professionally when pursuing employment opportunities.

Overall, the Business Connections Event serves as a strategic platform to connect DeSoto County students with the business community, reinforce employability skills, and provide meaningful exposure to career pathways as students prepare for life beyond high school.
