This week, Desoto County Schools the opportunity to speak at the monthly meeting of the Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce about the critical role business and industry partnerships play in preparing students for success beyond high school.

Strong partnerships between education and the business community are essential to developing a skilled workforce pipeline. Through internships, job shadowing experiences, industry tours, classroom engagement, mentorship opportunities, and work-based learning experiences, our business partners provide students with valuable real-world exposure that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom setting.

One of the highlights of today's meeting was hearing directly from three students representing a variety of Career and Technical Education programs. Each student shared their personal journey, the skills they have developed through their CTE coursework, and the impact that community and business partnerships have had on their educational experience.

Their testimonies demonstrated how meaningful industry engagement helps students build technical skills, professional communication abilities, confidence, and a clearer understanding of future career opportunities. These experiences not only prepare students for college and careers but also help connect them to the workforce needs of our local community.

We are grateful to the business and industry leaders who continue to invest their time, expertise, and resources in supporting Career and Technical Education. Together, we are creating opportunities for students while building the future workforce for our region.
